Speaker Series Overview

The Down Syndrome Medical Interest Group-USA (DSMIG-USA®) Speaker Series consists of webinars and enduring materials designed to share knowledge and experience related to the care of children and adults with Down syndrome and clinical research related to Down syndrome. The intended audience includes primary care physicians, specialty physicians, advanced practice providers, psychologists, dietitians, occupational and physical therapists, speech-language pathologists, social workers, genetic counselors, research scientists, residents, and trainees. The education includes live webinars that will be recorded and posted later as enduring materials. There will be a separate registration for the enduring programs.

Treatment Strategies and Recommendations for the Management of Overweight and Obesity in Down Syndrome: Diet and Nutrition Care Interventions

  1. Provide background on prevalence of overweight and obesity in pediatrics and adults with Down syndrome highlighting the importance of this topic. 
  2. Review research findings regarding dietary and lifestyle modification approaches in treatment of overweight and obesity for individuals w/ IDD. 
  3. Discuss specific nutritional considerations for individuals with Down syndrome and opportunities for medical nutrition therapy (MNT) interventions.
