DSMIG-USA Annual Symposium
Save the date! The 2026 DSMIG-USA Annual Symposium provides an interdisciplinary forum for sharing of knowledge and experiences related to the clinical care of individuals with Down syndrome across the lifespan, clinical research related to Down syndrome, and the development of Down syndrome clinics. Next year's symposium will be held July 23-25 in Orlando, Florida at the Hilton Signia. Don't miss this opportunity to connect with fellow Down syndrome experts from around the world to share ideas, ask questions, participate in meaningful discussions and network.
2026 Call for Abstracts/Speakers
The Annual Symposium Committee of the Down Syndrome Medical Interest Group - USA is currently accepting abstracts to present at our next Annual Symposium at the Signia by Hilton Orlando from July 23-25, 2026. The Call for Sessions submission deadline is November 15. We are looking for evidence-based presentations that are interactive in nature.
All submissions are welcome, but this year, we're especially interested in topics such as: Adult congenital heart disease; Cortical visual impairment (CVI); Obesity management and GLP-1 use; Translating research into clinical practice; Vaccinations in Down syndrome; Nutritional deficiencies and supplement use; Clotting risk; Psychosis vs. DSRD; Educational advocacy; and Pulmonary updates (to be presented as part of a lightning round). We especially welcome submissions that address care across the lifespan or offer a new perspective on a common clinical challenge. If you - or someone you know - has valuable expertise in these or related areas, please encourage them to submit a proposal.
Proposals will be scored/chosen according to the degree to which:
- The submitted proposal is thoughtfully and thoroughly completed.
- The presentation is relevant and timely.
- Speaker demonstrates relevant experience and expertise.
- Presentation will provide new and valuable information.
- Presentation does not focus on a particular product or service.
- Multi-speaker sessions include a variety of experts and/or stakeholders.
- Presentations are interactive.
Expectations are:
- Presenters agree to participate as volunteers and as such are not compensated for their participation in DSMIG-USA events.
- Presenters are expected to meet all deadlines for submission of materials and information related to their sessions, as outlines in the presenter packet.
- Presenters are expected to use people first language.
- Presenters are expected to share key takeaway points/messages within the content of their presentation or at the end.
- Panels must include a moderator.
- We value participation from self-advocates.
- DSMIG-USA may audio or video record sessions or take photographs during the event. Presenters agree to have their likeness included in DSMIG-USA media for promotional uses after the event.
